9/24/2023 0 Comments Super metroid rom hackwIt offers a good challenge that I liked almost all the way through. I also recommend the new hard difficulty level that comes with the Redux patch, for veterans of the game. I also very much encourage you to play with the Royale CRT filter it makes the game look as it should (remember that unfiltered, "raw" pixels of SNES games were never supposed to be seen by players they were just data used by the pixel artists to achieve what they wanted on CRT televisions of the time). The lower Brinstar track shouldn't even play in Brinstar at all it should be the Meridia theme and should play across the entire level, not just in the couple of rooms where it does.Īnyways. In my mind, the track of lower Brinstar was the Meridia track, and it just threw me off. I had also completely forgotten that it was the main Meridia track, or even that it was in the game at all. The one I'm thinking of is the other Meridia track. It's mostly hot, but there were a couple of tracks that weren't on the same level as the rest, and sometimes felt at odds with the vibe of the game. My only gripe is on the music, which is kind of hot and cold. With the Zero Mission physics patch installed, the mechanics of the game felt even better than before, and I just had a blast playing this game. The general design of the game is great and succeeds in making you feel the progression of your power gains. The music and art design come together to create this world and give it a sense of place that really engrosses you and enriches the experience. It has the best atmosphere of the 2D Metroid games, which was particularly striking after playing it right after having finished Dread. So Super Metroid is still a fantastic game. There is also an additional patch that makes save stations recharge health and ammo, and I very much recommend that you install it as well because I didn't and there is some 1994-era bullshit design in this game in regard to this matter, which becomes extremely evident when you're on your way to Ridley, especially on the new Hard difficulty option.Īnyways. It also has an optional version that patches in the physics of that game, which makes Samus less floaty and heavier. I had the romhack Super Metroid Redux patched in as well, which adds QoL features mostly taken from Zero Mission. I played the game on Retroarch, using the Royale CRT filter and the Mercury core (I think I forget). Today, I remembered that I had taken some screenshots of the game intended for the thread, so I figured I'd make a quick one and share them before clearing my desktop. I intended to make a thread then, but I forgot about it and life moved on. Last October, I replayed Super Metroid for the first time in a very long time (I'd say over a decade probably).
